  • Course description:

    This hands-on course is designed for English Language teachers who want to make grammar teaching more meaningful, engaging, and effective.

     A big problem in grammar teaching today, is that most materials stop at the language-manipulation level. This course moves beyond traditional matching, gap-filling or Multiple-Choice exercises, and focuses instead on helping students actively use grammar in communicative, real-world contexts.

    The second problem with grammar practice today, is that most of it is takes place on paper. By contrast, in this course, participants will explore how to guide learners in using AI tools to receive instant, personalized feedback on their grammar usage, supporting greater autonomy and confidence. The course also introduces a wide range of user-friendly websites and digital tools that enhance grammar instruction and make lessons more dynamic.

    A key feature of the course is its strong practical focus: teachers will leave with at least 50 tried-and-tested grammar activities that are easy to implement and adapt for use in any classroom. These include interactive games, collaborative tasks, and tech-supported exercises that promote active use of grammar structures.

    By the end of the course, teachers will be equipped with new strategies, resources, and technologies that empower learners to internalize grammar through practice and application, not just memorization.

  • Participants:

    This course is intended for both pre-service and in-service language teachers.

  • Course Duration:

    10 hours

  • Delivery - Evaluation:

    Online webinars. Five sessions of two hours each, over five weeks.

    The evaluation comprises a 30-item Multiple-Choice test at the end of the course, as well as five mini assignments (one after each session) in which participants will be asked to use AI or one of the online tools in order to prepare Grammar activities or games for their students.

     All successful participants will receive a ‘Certificate in Using Technology for ELT’ from GlobalCert.

  • The Instructor:

    Nick Michelioudakis (B. Econ., Dip. RSA, MSc [TEFL]) has been active in ELT for many years as a teacher, examiner, presenter and teacher trainer. He has worked for many publishers and examination boards and he has given seminars and workshops in numerous countries.

    He has written extensively on Methodology, though he is better known for his ‘Psychology and ELT’ articles which have appeared in numerous newsletters and magazines.

    His areas of interest include Psychology, Student Motivation, Learner Independence, Teaching one-to-one and Humour.

  • Course Content:

    The course covers the following topics:

    1. The Present 1: Present tenses can express more than just “now.” This session explores playful, contextualized activities that help students grasp and use present tenses with confidence and real-life relevance.
    2. The Present 2: Present tenses go beyond describing the moment. This session introduces fun, real-life activities that help students notice and practice present forms in meaningful, engaging ways.
    3. The Past 1: Telling stories and reflecting on experiences brings past tenses to life. This session presents engaging tasks and games that promote meaningful use of past forms in context-rich setting.
    4. The Past 2: Past tenses shine through storytelling. This session explores creative, communicative tasks that encourage students to use the past naturally while sharing experiences and reflecting on events.
    5. The Future 1: Talking about the future is full of choices. This session offers dynamic, communicative activities to help learners explore and practice future forms with clarity and purpose.
    6. The Future 2: The future can be expressed in many ways. This session focuses on interactive activities that guide students in choosing and using future forms appropriately in everyday situations.
    7. The Passive Voice: Often seen as abstract, the passive can be made accessible. This session features interactive tasks that help students understand and use the passive in realistic, fun, and meaningful contexts.
    8. Conditionals: What if grammar were more engaging? This session introduces imaginative, game-based activities to help students experiment with conditionals and apply them creatively in real-life and hypothetical situations.
    9. Questions: Question forms in English are tricky. This session looks at a range of activities and games which can help students practice question forms in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
    10. Teaching Grammar Holistically: Grammar structures do not occur in isolation. This session looks at activities which can help students pracctice different structures in combination, that is in the way they occur in real life.

     

    The course is squarely focused on practice, which means that it goes beyond the Presentation and Controlled Practice activities one can easily find in most coursebooks. In addition, in all these sessions we will be looking at Web Tools that can help our learners interact and internalise Grammar, as well as AI which can both help us teachers by generating grammar-rich texts and activities designed to generate specific structures, as well as help students by providing them with instant feedback on their mistakes and the correct grammatical forms.

  • Certificate:

    All successful participants will receive a ‘Certificate in Teaching Grammar with Technology and AI’ from GlobalCert.
